Another day, another exciting encounter awaits us in the SA20 2025, where the resurgent SunRisers Eastern Cape (SEC) side are gearing up to face Pretoria Capitals (PC) in Match 17 to be played at the St George's Park in Gqeberha on 21st January. With too much happening on the table, this clash remains unmissable from 9 PM IST.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

If luck is a thing, then SunRisers Eastern Cape would indeed be believing in it, as they are now fourth on the table after getting to the worst start possible with three consecutive losses this season. However, with two victories on the trot and bonus points in each of those encounters, SEC are back to their original best. Bowlers are back to taking wickets, and batters are scoring runs as required. In their previous encounter against Durban's Super Giants, SunRisers were lethal as they first restricted the opposition to just 115 and then chased it down within 16 overs to claim an additional point.

Marco Jansen, Richard Gleeson, Ottneil Baartman and Liam Dawson all claimed two wickets each without giving away any easy runs. Thereafter, David Bedingham 39 (20) and Aiden Markram 31* (20) played their role with the bat to take Eastern Cape home.

Pretoria Capitals

With two of their games abandoned due to rain, Pretoria Capitals are fifth on the table with just one win from five games, halfway through the SA20. Capitals are led by Rilee Rossouw, who is personally not having a great season with the bat. They had to face a defeat in their last game against Paarl Royals after scoring a massive 212 and were let down by bowlers who couldn't defend the score.

Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz 42 (29), Will Smeed 54 (34) playing his first match of the season, Kyle Verreynne's 23-ball 45 and James Neesham's 28-run cameo off just 13 deliveries powered them to an above-par total. However, none of the bowlers seemed to be disciplined, as runs flowed easily for the opposition.

St George's Park Pitch Report For Match 17 Of SA20 2025

Generally, the pitch at the St. George's Park is excellent for batting, but the previous game that happened here proved to be a nightmare for the batters with movement off the pitch and spinners getting the turn. Team batting first scored 115 in the first innings, which was chased with ease in 15.2 overs, but even for the second batting side, run-scoring wasn't that easy. However, pacers are expected to play a significant part here, whereas spinners will surely come into the picture as the match progresses. The team winning the toss will likely bat first because there are chances of the pitch slowing down, which happened in the first game here.

Top 3 Captain and Vice-Captain Choices For SEC vs PC

1) Marco Jansen

Probably the best all-rounder in SA20 and one of the best in the world, if not the best, Marco Jansen has the ability to win a match single-handedly for his side. In the current tournament, he already has 107 runs at a strike rate of 138.96, while with the ball, he has six wickets at an economy of perfect seven. Almost every time he has been asked to bowl in a challenging situation, Jansen has delivered, whereas, with the bat, he has fought tooth and nail to keep them in the game. His ball-striking ability is exquisite, making him the most feared cricketer.

2) Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Afghanistan's big-hitter Rahmanullah Gurbaz is Pretoria Capitals' best batter this season, with 138 runs under his belt from four innings, averaging 34.50, he has struck runs at 168.29 this season. Gurbaz has the ability to go at it from the first ball, which is why he is dangerous in most conditions in which he bats. The right-hander has a career T20 strike rate of 147.32 with over 5,000 runs in the format. The opener is an aggressive striker of the ball and can provide a solid platform to build the innings upon. Fresh off a 42 in the previous game, he will fancy his chances to score big again.

3) Richard Gleeson

Highest wicket-taker in the SA20 2025 so far, England's Richard Gleeson has eight wickets to his name in five games while maintaining an economy of 6.70. The right-armer bowls an incredibly disciplined line and length, forcing the batters to make an error, and more often, it works. His ability to swing the ball upfront makes him an intriguing prospect to bowl with the new ball. In the death, Gleeson is known to change the pace, which causes discomfort for batters playing their shot. In Gqeberha, he will be a hot pick, as the ball is expected to move around a bit.
