New Zealand Cricket is all set to host the 19th edition of Super Smash, the men's domestic T20 event, starting on Tuesday, December 19. The first edition was played in 2005-06 under the name of the New Zealand T20 competition.
From 2006-07 to 2008-09, the competition was played as State T20. Since the 2014-15 season, the campaign has been named Super Smash with four teams coming from the North Island and two teams from the South Island.
There are 6 teams participating in the competition namely Northern Knights, Auckland Aces, Canterbury, Central Stags, Otago Volts and Wellington Firebirds.
Auckland and Northern Knights have been the most successful sides of the tournament. They have won the trophy a record 4 times.
Each team will get to play 10 matches in the league and the top team will advance to play in the Final match. The second and third ranked team will face off in the Eliminator match. Winner of that match will face the first ranked team in the Finals.
