Pakistan opener Imam Ul Haq revealed the true backstory behind the allegations against his team on fitness and dietary grounds following their painstaking league stage defeat against arch-rivals India during the 2019 World Cup in England.

As the then Sarfaraz Khan-led side was heavily outplayed by the Men in Blue in Manchester, Pakistan journalist Momin Saqib made a hilarious viral clip to express his anger and frustration over the loss. In his clip, Saqib made remarks against Pakistani cricketers' fitness standards and questioned if they are keeping a careful check on their diets.

Saqib said, "Ye log burger khate hain (these guys eat burgers)" and swelled their stomachs as a dig at the fitness and fielding agility on display during the match by the Men in Green. Four years later, Imam has now revealed the true story behind this allegation by recalling what happened in the build-up to the face-off at Old Trafford.

Speaking on the Pakistan-based 'Honest Hour' podcast, Imam reminisced of even interacting with Saqib about his comments and allegations and remembered telling the journalist that the 'Burger' controversy carried no fire behind all the smoke.

"During the 2019 World Cup, we lost the match to India and there were accusations on me, Babar, Sarfaraz and Shoaib Malik that we were drinking and eating burgers. I remember Momin Saqib creating a video and said we're eating burgers," Imam said.

"Me and Hasan Ali, we were in Manchester and had gotten really tired after training ahead of the India game. With us, we had our then bowling coach Azhar Mahmood and his three little daughters."

"Nobody knows to date that the burgers were purchased for those three little kids and not us. And they're kids so we can't tell them to buy it on their own (in jest). So we took the burgers for them and they eat it," he added.
