Wriddhiman Saha struggles to find a domestic team

Wriddhiman Saha continues to find no takers in domestic cricket after he willingly decided to leave his Bengal stateside for good.

Saha, a veteran of 40 Tests for India, has said that he has not received any offers from other teams to play domestic cricket.

This comes after Saha's earlier claim that many top-sides have approached him, saying, "from quite a few state associations, but I have not given my go-ahead to either of them."

Saha, who, as per reports, was to join either Gujarat or the Baroda state team, now finds himself going nowhere.

The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) and Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) have denied making such offers to the star wicketkeeper.

According to IndiaToday, GCA official Anil Patel said, "I can confirm that Gujarat Cricket Association has made no such offer to Wriddhiman Saha. We have a young keeper named Het Patel, who is doing very well for us. Why in the world would we try to spoil his career?"

Baroda CA secretary Ajit Lele confirmed from the US, saying he has no idea if Saha has been approached or not.

The BCA recently roped in former Indian player Ambati Rayudu to play for them in the upcoming season.

"I am not in India for the past one month, but as far as BCA is concerned, we have already roped in Ambati Rayudu as a professional. To the best of my knowledge, we haven't sounded out Saha," Lele explained.

Reportedly, Saha was heading towards Tripura, but his demand to take on higher professional fees than his match fees was a deal-breaker.

Saha has taken pot-shots at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly, who assured him a place in the Indian squad, but ended up being dropped by head coach Rahul Dravid.

"We fully understand Saha's disappointment after being dropped from the Indian team. But time and again, he is slyly bringing BCCI president in every media interaction and also talking about selection matters which is breaking clause of a centrally contracted player," said an anonymous BCCI official.

The 37-year-old had an exceptional Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with title winners Gujarat Titans (GT), where he scored 300+ runs across the season.
