Harmanpreet believes SL series a great preparatory tour for Commonwealth Games 2022

Team India are gearing up for their first series in the post-Mithali Raj era, with the star batter announcing her retirement from the game a fortnight ago. The team will now be led by Harmanpreet Kaur and will play Sri Lanka Women in 3 T20Is and as many ODIs. 


Speaking about the team in a pre-match interaction, Harmanpreet Kaur stressed on the need for batters to be flexible with the batting order with the side having many openers. 


"We have a lot of openers in the side. When you come to the India side, you have to be prepared to bat at any number and they are ready for it. That's what you need from your batting order."


The skipper also added that this will be a great preparatory tour and the team will look to provide all players with opportunities as they prepare themselves for the Commonwealth Games 2022.


The team coach Ramesh Powar too, echoed the same opinion and said that the team will be looking to get their playing combinations right.


 "We will freeze down a playing combination, which will take part in the Commonwealth Games, so that we are confident of walking into the tournament and players will be confident that they are going to play the first game," he said.


Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur was also asked about Jemimah Rodrigues's role in the side with the player receiving a call-up after being dropped from the side for the ODI World Cup. The skipper backed the player and said everyone will get chances.


"Jemimah is truly an experienced player. She will definitely play a crucial role in the T20 series."


The first match between the two sides starts today, June 23.

Kieron Pollard to miss the remainder of the Vitality T20 Blast 2022 through injury

Surrey all-rounder Kieron Pollard will miss the remainder of the Vitality T20 Blast 2022 after having surgery on an injured knee. Surrey have confirmed the development in a media release: "Despite treatment, he has failed to improve significantly, and therefore a decision was taken to gain a surgical opinion. He has undergone successful surgery this [Tuesday] morning, which will keep him out of action for the next four to six weeks whilst he rehabilitates". The ex-West Indies skipper suffered the knee issue early on in the campaign and underwent surgery on Tuesday (June 21) morning. The surgery has ruled him out for four to six weeks, putting a halt on his stint with Surrey. It remains to be seen whether Surrey Cricket Club will decide to pursue a replacement of Pollard for the remainder of the group stages and beyond or whether they are happy with the current bunch of players they have. Pollard has played six matches for Surrey this season, and his last outing came against Hampshire on Sunday. He has taken one wicket and scored 99 runs at a strike rate of 141.42 in five innings of the T20 Blast for the unbeaten South Group leaders this term. Pollard said he's disappointed to miss the rest of the season but wishes his teammates luck for the rest of the tournament. "This is hugely frustrating as we have been a dominant force and I felt I was part of something special. But I wish the lads all the best for the rest of the campaign whilst I get myself fit and firing again," said Kieron Pollard on his exit. Surrey's Director of cricket Alec Stewart has revealed that the club is disappointed to lose Pollard and wished him a speedy recovery. "We are disappointed to lose a player of Kieron's quality and wish him a speedy recovery”, said Alec Stewart. Surrey are at the top of the south division table, having won eight of their nine matches, with their other game against Glamorgan washed out. They have a lead of three points over second-placed Somerset, with five group league matches remaining. London Spirit have signed the hard-hitting West Indies batter in 'The Hundred' draft for £125,000. Pollard is expected to be fit for the start of his spell with London Spirit in the men's Hundred. They kick-off their campaign against Oval Invincibles on August 4.

David Warner packed 99 runs against Sri Lanka at Colombo in the fourth ODI of the ongoing five-match series. However, his concentrated batting efforts were in vain as Australia fell four runs short of their target. Sri Lanka's narrow win marked their third successive victory in the series, thus clinching the 5-match series with a game to spare. Warner claims ODIs 'fantastic preparations' for Tests The star opening batter believes that playing at the pitches used for ODIs will be helpful for the visitors ahead of the Test series. After the narrow defeat against the island nation, Warner claims they have had time to adjust to the dustbowl pitches and are prepared to tackle the Lankan spinners in Tests. The 35-year-old said: "We're always expecting turning wickets and its fantastic preparation for us... It's great practice leading into the Test series." "We actually love that they're playing on the wickets back-to-back, that's what we want, we can't get that practice in the nets, the nets are green. For us it's great practice out in the middle with these dustbowls. It's going to be exciting for the Test matches in Galle because we know what we're going to get there," said Warner. The Australian batters faced 43 overs of spin in the fourth match against Sri Lanka, a record in ODI cricket. Previously, Zimbabwe spinners had bowled 42 overs against West Indies in 2010. The aforementioned figures highlight the challenge ahead of Australia as they seek redemption in the Test series against Sri Lanka following the thrashing in the ODIs. The two Test matches will be played at the Galle International Stadium between June 29 and July 12. The series, titled Warne–Muralitharan Trophy, will be a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship.
