The Women’s Premier League (WPL) will likely get a big update ahead of its 2024 chapter by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As per recent reports, the franchise-based tournament will be played in home and away format for its second season, which itself is poised to commence on February 23 next year.

BCCI likely to give WPL a scheduling update

The WPL launched with its inaugural season in March 2023, with five teams competing for the coveted trophy. Interestingly, each of the 22 fixtures of the tournament were staged across two different venues in Mumbai, the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium.

According to a report from RevSportz, the WPL 2024 season will likely be played in home and away format, much like its male counterpart (the IPL). Possible venues being considered for the format are Mumbai and Bengaluru at the moment. As of now, the WPL 2024 season itself has a tentative launch date of February 23, 2024.

The WPL 2023 season, also the inaugural chapter of women’s T20 extravaganza in India, turned out to be a riveting success story from the BCCI. Each match in Mumbai witnessed a good turnout, with scores of fans attending the stadium to watch their favorite cricketing stars in action.

After 21 hard-fought matches throughout the competition, it was Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians unit that emerged victorious in the final, upstaging their Delhi Capitals counterparts by seven wickets in a crunch last over finish.
