Women's Premier League's (WPL) side Gujarat Giants faced a massive blow where their skipper Beth Mooney got injured during the opening game denting their hopes but now, they have signed up an experienced replacement. The left-hander has been swapped with South Africa's premier batter Laura Wolvaardt who is currently in Pakistan for the exhibition matches.
The news comes in after there were some discussions regarding Mooney's substitution in the team as she faced a knee injury while being at the crease where they were in pursuit of a mammoth target of 208 against Mumbai Indians.
Moreover, vice-captain Sneh Rana was elevated to the role of skipper for the entire tournament as they are currently struggling with two consecutive losses in the first two games.
Talking about Wolvaardt, she was playing for the Super Women in the PSL's exhibition matches and will cut short her stint now. In her place, Sune Luus has been signed to participate for the games left.
As per the statement given by Wolvaardt to PCB, she said,
"I want to thank the PCB for this opportunity to play in the Women's League exhibition matches. It has been an incredible short journey, but I have loved the experience. The team has been amazing and I have felt so welcoming."
Previously, Mooney was picked in the WPL auction for a massive amount of ₹2 Crore whereas Laura went unsold but now the latter will be playing a major role for the Adani-owned side as they aim to earn the prized trophy.
