Woakes is suffering from knee issue which requires surgery to regain fitness
Chris Woakes after claiming a fifer
English pacer Chris Woakes has been suffering from injuries for a fair bit of time, ruling him out of action. The all-rounder will be missing another period of cricket, especially the T20 World Cup in Australia, later this year, after it was announced that he will be going for surgery on his troublesome knee. Woakes is having some discomfort in his knee which even he is unsure of.
The pacer will be missing out on four to six weeks of action if he decides to go ahead with the proposed plan. The 33-year-old last played during the 2nd XI match against Worcestershire for Warwickshire.
What Woakes has to say on his injury
"It's been a really frustrating summer.
I've really struggled with my knee without really knowing exactly what's wrong. I've finally got to the situation now where really the only chance I've got of getting back to full fitness is by going for some surgery.
Everything that I'm getting from the surgeon who seems to be quite optimistic about it all. He's saying four to six weeks - more likely to be six than four," he stated.

Return from injury unlikely before T20 World Cup
Although, Woakes is hoping for a quick return from the injury, it looks highly unlikely that he will be fit before the mega-event. Moreover, even if he gets fit in time, he should not rush himself into the fold considering improper rehabilitation could jeopardise his future, even forcing him into early retirement.
