The eighth Group stage encounter of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup saw West Indies brush aside Zimbabwe by 31 runs. Batting first, West Indies posted a decent total of 153 and later defended it successfully to secure this much-needed win.
Alzarri Joseph emerged as West Indies' saviour with the ball, as he dismantled Zimbabwe's batting order by scalping four wickets for 16 runs. After the defeat, Zimbabwe skipper Regis Chakabva rued losing early wickets during the chase. However, he also acknowledged Joseph's spell, terming it a difference between the two teams.
Here's what Chakabva stated
"We were happy to restrict them to 150. We went in with confidence that we'll get there. Probably lost one wicket too many in the first ten overs. Credit to West Indies and Alzarri Joseph who opened up the gates."
The stylish right-handed batter praised his troops for their commanding effort with the ball, which restricted West Indies to a sub-par total of 153. Despite the loss, Chakabva seemed confident about Zimbabwe's comeback in their final group-stage fixture against Scotland.
"Bowlers stuck to their plan in terms of trying to hit our areas. They did pretty well to pull it back. Pitch played very well throughout. Will be looking to bounce back on Friday."
Cut-throat competition is going on in Group B for the two available spots in the Super 12 stage. With each team having one win under their belt, we are in for some cracking contest between these four teams in the coming days.
