Team India and host West Indies have been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first T20I in Tarouba. The two sides have pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanctions imposed them.

Hardik Pandya and co. set to lose five percent of fees

In the first match of their five-game T20I series across West Indies and USA, hosts charted up 149-6 upon winning the toss and batting first. The Indian bowlers finished the innings an over short of the allotted time, which eventually costed them five percent of their match fees.

On the other hand, West Indies were fined 10 percent of their fees by the ICC for falling two overs behind in time.

The fines were imposed by the apex body in accordance with the Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

The law states that any team is eligible to pay five percent of their match fees for every over they fail to bowl within the allotted time.

Captains Hardik Pandya and Rovman Powell accepted the sanctions imposed upon them by on-field umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Patrick Gustard and third umpire Nigel Duguid.

As it turned out, the ‘Men in Blue’ also ended up losing the contest by four runs in a nail-biting finish.

The two sides will now head to the Providence Stadium to play the second T20I of their series. The match is scheduled to be played on August 6, and the series itself will conclude on August 13 in Lauderhill, USA.
