  • Wi Vs Ind 3Rd Odi Pooran Blames Lack Of Partnerships For Crushing Defeat

Nicholas Pooran blames lack of partnerships for crushing defeat

After another daunting ODI series loss, West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran accepted all the mistakes that his team made throughout the ODI series.

In a historic turn of events, India whitewashed West Indies in the three-match ODI series, winning the third game by 119 runs in Trinidad last night. This was India's first ever ODI series sweep against the Caribbean Men in their backyard.

In the post-match presentation, West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran said that the lack of match-winning partnerships resulted in his side's harsh defeat.

“It was going to be a challenge with DLS coming into play. We did get some partnerships, but not as many as we wanted, that cost us the game,” Pooran explained.

This was the third consecutive time the West Indies were whitewashed in an ODI series this year.

Although Pooran praised the Windies players' valiant efforts in the first two games, he blamed the packed cricketing schedule for his side's recent abysmal record in the 50-overs format.

“It was a tough one for us. We did a lot of right things in the first two games. I think we tried up our best, the boys performed well. But there were a lot of games in a short span of time,” Pooran said.

Pooran, the second-best batter from the hosts' side in the series, opined that the Men in Maroon are going through a transition in ODIs, comprising a few inexperienced players who have yet to learn the methods to play ODI cricket.

However, the Trinidad-born revealed that they learnt a lot of things from this series, which they would implement in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.

“There are a few inexperienced players still figuring out how to play ODI cricket. We gained a lot in this series after coming from Guyana.Everyone has a good idea now, looking forward to the upcoming New Zealand series,” the 26-year-old concluded.
