SL vs PAK | 2nd Test | Dimuth Karunaratne surpasses 6,000 Test runs

Dimuth Karunaratne became the sixth Sri Lankan batter to surpass the 6,000 Test runs mark. He achieved his milestone during the second Test between hosts Sri Lanka and Pakistan at Galle on Day 4.

Karunaratne, who batted despite back spasms, recorded his 31st Test half-century in red-ball cricket. In terms of most fifty+ scores for Lankan Lions, he is joint-fourth with Sanath Jayasuriya.

Former skipper Kumar Sangakkara tops the charts ahead of Mahela Jayawardene, Angelo Mathews and Arravind de Silva. 

They are the only players in the 10,000+ runs bracket.

The Numbers Game

The left-hander made his Test debut in 2012 against New Zealand at Galle. He also has a double-ton to his name, which came against Bangladesh in 2021 at Pallekele.

He also has two Test wickets in the form of Cheteshwar Pujara and Faf du Plessis.

The 34-year-old has featured in 34 ODIs scoring 767 runs with six fifties. 

In 186 First-Class appearances, Karunaratne has 13,891 runs at an average of 56.78, including 44 tons and 61 half-centuries. 

Karunaratne was the third-highest run-getter (902) in the 2021 season, only behind Joe Root (1,708) and Rohit Sharma (906). The left-hander has scored 5 Test centuries since.

In 2022, the Lankan skipper amassed 569 runs at an average of 40.64, which included one ton and four half-centuries.
