WI vs ENG | Robinson left out of first Test, Woakes set to lead attack

Chris Woakes has recently stated that he was really excited after he was given another chance to play for the England Test side. The 33-year-old thought that he might be dropped after a forgettable Ashes Series in Australia recently.

Woakes is likely to share the new ball with Craig Overton in the first Test against the West Indies which is about to commence on 8th of March in Antigua. Overton has been included in the squad in place of Ollie Robinson after the pacer suffered a back spasm in the warm up game last week and was not included in the squad.

The right-arm fast bowler stated that Robinson’s absence will be felt given the way he had a bright start in the longer format but on the other hand it provides opportunities to others to showcase their talent and helps the team to test the bench strength.

The pacer talked about the challenges the Red ball offers especially in the Caribbean ahead of the first Test in Antigua. The pacer spoke after the training session at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

He stated that it won’t be easy for the visitors as England haven’t won many Test matches here and it would be a challenge for the visitors.

The pacer further added that it was more about how mentally we prepare ourselves to win games as a team rather than personal achievements. Woakes went on to say that the team is looking to get better collectively rather than relying on performances of a few individuals. The Birmingham born went through a below par performance in the Ashes series taking just 6 wickets in 3 games with an average of 55.33. The 33-year-old averages 22.63 in 25 games in England and 52.38 from 17 away games playing away. These figures raise question marks over his adaptability.

However, Woakes is excited to be given another chance but the pacer added that he was disappointed that the Ashes didn’t go as expected. Woakes' case is like managing director Andrew Stauss mentioned that some games act like a platform for some players to play a different role.

Woakes will be leading the pace attack in the absence of the experienced duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad. He will partner Overton alongside Mark Wood and uncapped Saqib Mahmood.

Autopsy reports reveal reason behind Shane Warne's death

The autopsy reports have revealed the reason behind former Australia cricketer Shane Warne’s death. As per the Thai authorities, the reports have confirmed that Warne died of natural causes. It was initially revealed that the former player had passed away due to a suspected heart attack at the age of 52 while he was in Thailand with his friends. “Today investigators received the autopsy result, in which the medical opinion is that the cause of death is natural,” deputy national police spokesman Kissana Phathanacharoen said, according to Channel News Asia. “Investigators will summarize the autopsy result for prosecutors within the timeframe of the law.” A German woman is also being investigated by the Thai police for a potential security breach involving the body of Warne. The woman had spent over half a minute alone in the ambulance with Warne’s body as per ABC. The Thai police understood that the woman knew Warne personally, as reported by Fox Sports. Warne had complained of chest pain Shane Warne’s manager James Erskine has revealed that he had complained of ‘chest pain and sweating’ after undergoing a two-week fluid-only diet. “He did go on these ridiculous sorts of diets and he just finished one, where he basically only ate fluids for 14 days and he’d done this three or four times,” Erskine told ‘Nine Network.’ “It was a bit all or nothing. It was either white buns with butter and lasagne stuffed in the middle or he would be having black and green juices.” “He obviously smoked most of his life. I don’t know; I think it was just a massive heart attack. That’s what I think has happened,” Erskine added.

ICC Women's World Cup 2022: NZ-W back on track with easy win vs BAN-W in rain-curtailed fixture

Hosts New Zealand were back on track in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 after clinching a 9-wicket win against Bangladesh in Dunedin on Monday in a rain-curtailed fixture. The match was reduced to 27-over per side after rain played spoilsport and New Zealand were handed a target of 141 runs. Bangladesh managed to pick an early wicket after Salma Khatun cleaned up Sophie Devine for 14 off 16 but the Asian side couldn’t really capitalise on the start they got as Suzie Bates and Amelia Kerr came in for the rescue. The two batters stitched an unbeaten partnership of 108 runs for the second wicket. While Bates was not out for 79 off just 68 balls, Kerr was 47* off 37. Earlier, in the day, Bangladesh started off the proceedings well with openers Shamima Sultana and Fargana Hoque putting up a stand of 59 runs for the first wicket. But Sultana’s departure pushed the side on the back foot as they began to lose wickets at regular intervals and were 119/6 at one stage before ending the innings at 140/8. Hoque scored 52 off 63. Satterthwaite was the pick of the bowlers after she scalped three wickets for 25 runs in 5 overs. “It's the nature of this tournament (on asked about overcoming the disappointing loss to WI), we have games coming quickly with very less turnaround time. Grateful to the ground staff for getting a game of nearly 50 overs, to Bangladesh for coming up and the umpires for getting the game on,” Devine said after the match.
