WI vs BAN | 2nd Test Day 3 | West Indies on the cusp of completing series whitewash

Day 3 of the 2nd Test between West Indies and Bangladesh at St. Lucia ended with the home team closing in on the victory and completing a series whitewash.

The Day's proceedings started with West Indies at 340/5, with Kyle Mayers and Joshua Da Silva at the crease. However, the duo could add just four runs to their overnight score before Silva (29) was adjudged LBW off Mehidy Hasan.

Mayers was dismissed for 146 off 208 by Khaled Ahmed, which helped the visitors to bundle out West Indies in a quick fashion. The only notable contributor from the tail-enders was Kemar Roach with an unbeaten 18. The home team was dismissed for a total of 408 and took the lead of 174 runs. Khaled was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh with five scalps.

Then, Roach reached the milestone of 250 wickets in the game's longest format by dismissing Tamim Iqbal for 4 off 8 balls in the third over of the innings. In this pursuit, he got past the legendary Michael Holding and became the sixth highest wicket-taker for West Indies in the red-ball format.

A couple of overs later, the experienced pacer continued his momentum to induce an edge from Mahmudul Hasan Joy (13).

Najmul Hasan Shanto (42) displayed good resilience to steady the team, while Anamul Haque (4), Liton Das (19), and Shakib Al Hasan (16) could not provide substantial contributions.

Due to the heavy rain, the play was called off early. At the end of Day's play, Bangladesh were reeling at 132/6 and trailed by 42 runs. Nurul Hasan and Mehidy were the overnight batters for the touring party.

It will be an excellent opportunity for the West Indies to complete a series whitewash by picking up the wickets of the tail-enders on Day 4. On the other hand, it will be interesting to see if Bangladesh can thrive in pressure situations and contain the home team.
