The countdown to IPL 2025 has begun and while teams are busy unveiling their fresh kits, there is a new twist to the tournament’s look this year. Defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have revealed a special addition to their jersey: a Golden Badge on the sleeve.
Golden Badge A New Tradition in IPL
This isn’t just for style, it’s a brand-new tradition that the IPL has introduced. So, what’s this Golden Badge all about? Simply put, it’s a badge of honour. The IPL has rolled out this new feature to recognize the reigning champions.
Much like in European football leagues where clubs like Manchester City wear a golden Premier League badge, this concept is now making its way into cricket. Starting with IPL 2025, the team that lifts the trophy will carry the Golden IPL Badge on their jersey in the following season.
Since KKR won the 2024 title, they’ll be the first team in IPL history to don this prestigious emblem throughout the upcoming season. The next team to win IPL 2025 will inherit the badge for IPL 2026.
KKR’s New Look More Than Just a Kit
KKR didn’t stop at the Golden Badge. They have also added a third star above their crest to represent their three IPL titles.
When Ajinkya Rahane captained KKR takes the field in their opening game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens on March 22, they won’t just be defending their title, they’ll be carrying a symbol of their dominance, quite literally on their sleeves.
With the Golden Badge making its debut in IPL 2025, the tournament just got an extra touch of prestige. KKR will be the first to flaunt it but the real question is: who will snatch the badge for IPL 2026? The race for gold has begun!
