'We'll get to see a great example of leadership' - Jamie Siddons on Shakib Al Hasan

In a recent development, Shakib-al-Hasan was reappointed as Bangladesh's Test captain after Mominul Haque stepped down from the role.

Although Shakib's recruitment was surprising considering his irregular presence in the Test team in recent times, the Tigers' batting coach Jamie Siddons has hailed this decision by the BCB.

Terming Shakib as a very good thinker and a consistent performer, Siddons said they would witness some fine examples of quality leadership with Shakib's return as the team's skipper, something they were missing for quite a while.

The Australian further stressed that this would also require Shakib to play every Test match, which is definitely an advantage from the team's perspective.

"Shakib's a very good captain and a very good thinker of the game. He is also a consistent performer. When he is the captain, he will have to play. It's pretty hard to captain [a side] when not playing. I think we will get to see a great example of leadership that we may have been missing for a while," Siddons said.

Continuing, Siddons reckoned that Shakib would emerge as a great leader for two reasons; firstly, he has a plethora of experience in captaining the side. Secondly, he has got the support of the players, which is really essential for a captain's success.

The Bangladesh batting coach also stressed that this decision by the BCB would allow the ex-captain Mominul to work on his deteriorating batting form, thereby proving to be beneficial for the team in another way.

"Shakib has done it [captaincy] before. He has got the trust and the players behind him. So, it will be fantastic to have him back in charge", Siddons said. "The other good thing is that Mominul can now focus on his batting, in which he has been struggling a little bit. We need him performing. It will be nice to see him without the weight of captaincy on his shoulders so that he can just be a bit free with his cricket", the 58-year-old concluded.
