  • Eng Vs Nz Colin De Grandhomme Ruled Out Of The First Test Due To Injury

ENG vs NZ | Colin de Grandhomme ruled out of the first Test due to injury

New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme will not take any further part in the ongoing first Test between England and New Zealand at Lord's after suffering an injury.

The Blackcaps all-rounder pulled up in his delivery stride after five completed deliveries of the 31st over of England's chase. Daryl Mitchell completed the over by bowling the final ball. After speaking with Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, he left the field limping and did not reappear post the tea interval.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) statement confirmed de Grandhomme suffered a suspected tear of the plantar fascia in his right heel while bowling in the second session of day three on Saturday.

"Colin de Grandhomme will play no further part in the 1st Test after suffering a suspected tear to his right plantar fascia (heal) while bowling in the 2nd session of Day 3. An MRI scan tomorrow will inform his prognosis for the rest of the series," said New Zealand Cricket in an official release.

Prior to this, Grandhomme gave England's new Test skipper Ben Stokes a life as he dismissed the star English all-rounder off the no-ball. Stokes hung his head low after the dismissal and started walking back. However, the replay showed that Colin de Grandhomme had overstepped, and the World-cup winner was given another life to save the Test for his team.

Earlier in the day, when New Zealand were batting, de Grandhomme arrived at the crease after a 195-run fifth-wicket record stand between Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell came to an end. The next Stuart Broad delivery struck the pads of de Grandhomme, who wandered briefly up the wicket as the England players appealed - unaware of where the ball was going.

However, the ball had rolled straight to Ollie Pope in the slips who quickly threw down the stumps as the veteran all-rounder turned to slide his bat in the crease and found himself short of the crease to get dismissed without opening his account.

Colin did play his part with the ball and bat in the first innings. First, he scored a quickfire unbeaten 42 off 50 deliveries to top score for his team, and with the ball, he got the prized scalp of England star batter Joe Root. Unfortunately for New Zealand, he'll not be able to make an impact on the outcome of the match and the series.
