“We want to do something that no Bangladesh team has done here before," says Russell Domingo ahead of South Africa series.
As Bangladesh are all set to take on South Africa in a three-match ODI series starting from March 18, coach Russell Domingo has said that their ultimate goal is to win the series and they are prepared to deal with the proteas challenge in the best possible manner.
According to Domingo, the visitors have definitely been tagged as the underdogs but the former South African coach has shown strong belief on his side and said that they would want to win the series on the South African soil this time, something which Bangladesh has never achieved before.
“We have already come here as underdogs, having not won a game here before. But we are confident in our one-day side. We have played well in this format for a long period of time. Players understand their roles. We are expecting a competitive series”, Domingo said.
“But South Africa, who beat India 3-0 recently, will definitely start as favourites. They are playing in their own conditions where they are a tough side to beat. They will start as favourites, but that suits us coming as underdogs. It gives us a great opportunity to do something special. We want to do something that no Bangladesh team has done here before”, he further cited.
The Bangladesh coach also seems to be happy having the experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan back in the squad as he is a much-needed player to account for the balance of the team.
“Shakib balances our team. It is always difficult when he is not in the team; you are not sure if you need an extra bowler or batter. It is great to have a player of his calibre around”, Domingo said on Shakib.
For information, Bangladesh have lost all the 19 ODIs they have played so far in the rainbow nation. They will certainly look to improve this record in the upcoming series which starts on Friday.
