Seattle Orcas’ wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock had an evening to remember during his side’s big win over the San Francisco Unicorns. In match number four of the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 season, the South African plucked four catches behind the stumps, including three in a space of four deliveries to finish off the proceedings at Texas’ Grand Prairie Stadium.

Notably, the fourth of those catches might well finish as one of the best grabs of the tournament.

Seattle Orcas piled up 177-4 after captain Wayne Parnell won the toss and opted to bat first. Opener Quinton de Kock failed to get going with the bat as he became his side’s first casualty of the evening. His partner Nauman Anwar and each of the subsequent three middle-order batters unfurled crucial contributions, with Heinrich Klaasen top-scoring in the innings through his 31-ball 53.

The San Francisco Unicorns, in response, fell flat in their run-chase following their openers dismissals. They soon slumped to 140-7 from 17 overs and were left to fetch another 38 runs from the remaining 18 balls, with just three wickets left in the bank.

Orcas’ speedster Cameron Gannon polished off the tail, as he picked the final three wickets in a space of four deliveries. Wicketkeeper de Kock played a supporting role in each of those three wickets, with his third act marking one of the catches of the tournament so far.

The South African stumper was seen flying to his right with his outstretched right hand to complete a catch out of thin air.

The Orcas won the contest by 35 runs and made it two wins in two nights to go at the top of the MLC 2023 points table.

They will now face the Texas Super Kings in match number 10, scheduled to be played on July 21 in Morrisville’s Church Street Park.
