[Watch] MS Dhoni’s Lightning Quick Stumping Resurfaces After Klaasen’s IPL 2024 Act

MS Dhoni and his lightning-fast approach behind the stumps yielded a number of remarkable wins for Team India. Impudent with the gloves against spinners, the legendary wicketkeeper was equally effective while standing up to the stumps off fast bowlers.

While MS Dhoni’s artistry behind the stumps continues to live on in CSK colors, one of his earliest stumpings as India’s wicketkeeper resurfaced on April 10, i.e., a day after SRH stumper Heinrich Klaasen pulled off a similar dismissal against Punjab Kings’ skipper Shikhar Dhawan in match number 23 of the IPL 2024 season.

MS Dhoni stumps Ponting off Pathan in 2007 classic

Ricky Ponting-led Australia toured India back in late-2007 for a seven-match ODI series. In match number four of the tour, Indian wicketkeeper and captain MS Dhoni stumped his Australian counterpart with lightning quick hands off the bowling of fast bowler Irfan Pathan.

In the 19th over of the Australian innings, Pathan sent down a 135.1kph delivery to a well-set Ponting (29*) at a time when Dhoni was standing up to the stumps. After Ponting leaned forward and missed his attempted drive, the Indian wicketkeeper gathered the ball and whipped the bails off in a flash.

Similarly, South African-based SRH wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen also pulled off a similar dismissal, albeit on a 140kph delivery from Bhuvneshwar Kumar to dismiss Punjab Kings opener Shikhar Dhawan.

Soon after Klaasen’s swift glovework, a legion of fans and followers compared his IPL 2024 act with MS Dhoni’s yesteryears classics behind the stumps.

MS Dhoni is currently plying his trade for the CSK franchise in IPL 2024. The cricketer recently relinquished his captaincy in favor of rising star Ruturaj Gaikwad.

As per reports, the ongoing IPL 2024 season might well turn out to be MS Dhoni’s final set of fixtures in competitive cricket.
