Jacob Bethell covered good ground around the deep extra cover region before making his dive to catch a dipping ball near the boundary line during the 14th over of the Nottinghamshire innings. His sensational fielding brilliance accounted for the key wicket of Nottinghamshire wicketkeeper-batter Tom Moores for a sluggish 12-ball six at 95-5.

Jacob Bethell’s flying effort also handed Birmingham Bears senior fast bowler Richard Gleeson his first and only wicket of the evening, as he finished with impressive figures of 1-18 from four overs.

Jacob Bethell’s sensational agility near the boundary line set the tone of an emphatic Birmingham Bears win, as Nottinghamshire folded up for just 127 after reaching 95-4 in 13 overs.

Earlier in the match, Birmingham Bears charted a competitive 149 upon batting first at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Cricket Ground. Star opening batter Rob Yates punched out a sizzling 48-ball 68, and held the innings together for the first 17 overs.

Later in the run-chase, Bears spinner Dan Mousley picked up 3-22 while Hasan Ali, Jake Lintott and Danny Briggs all picked up two wickets each to keep Nottinghamshire down by 23 runs.

The outcome marked Birmingham Bears’ second win in succession to maintain their unbeaten record in the opening week of the 2024 T20 Blast season. In doing so, they find themselves at number two on the North Group points table behind Northamptonshire.
