Glenn Maxwell emerged as one of the few standout performers for Australia in their soul-crushing 134-run defeat to South Africa at the 2023 World Cup in Lucknow. Amidst South Africa’s run-riot upfront, the star all-rounder picked up the key wickets of Temba Bavuma and centurion Quinton de Kock and conceded just 34 runs from his ten overs.

However, the cricketer failed to replicate the same impact with the bat as he was dismissed for just three in his side’s monumental but failed run-chase. Notably, after his dismissal at the hands of Keshav Maharaj, Maxwell was seen smoking vape in the dressing room. As expected, the video of his relaxing deed in the dugout soon went viral across social media.

Maxwell struggled to get going with the bat, as he secured just three runs during his 17-ball excruciating stay at the crease. Ace South African spinner Keshav Maharaj eventually halted his painful run-chase journey as Australia’s troubles worsened at 65-5.

A few overs after Maxwell’s departure, the all-round veteran was seen smoking vape in the team dugout.

A while after Maxwell’s dismissal, the Australians were eventually folded up by South Africa for just 177 in 40.5 overs, as they ended up registering their second successive defeat this 2023 World Cup. Earlier in the tournament, they also lost to Team India by six wickets in Chennai.

Australia will now face Sri Lanka in a must-win game for their subsequent World Cup 2023 challenge. The much-awaited contest will be hosted at the same venue on October 16.
