Wasim Khan in contention for vacant General Manager position at ICC

The former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO is inches away from the General Manager Post at the International Cricket Council. The ex-first division player has been one of the top candidates after Geoff Allardice’s promotion as the organisation’s CEO.

Allardice was in the position for eight years, and with his promotion, the post has been vacant for a while now, with ICC interviewing suitable candidates for the post. Khan, however, will face some severe contention from former West Indian player Adrian Griffith who has been acting as the standing placeholder for Allardice.

It is interesting to note that Khan is amongst the few names that could replace Tom Harrison as the chief executive at the English Cricket Board (ECB). However, if Wasim does end by taking the general manager position at ICC, the ex-player will have to abandon his dreams of taking over as ECB’s CEO in the coming years.

The Pakistan-born cricketer is slated to be present in Dubai for the first round of interviews and could end up with the position in the coming days. However, the ECB is not short of contenders, with names such as Johnny Grave, Guy Lavender, Richard Bevan, David Mahoney and Neil Snowball next in line to replace Tom Harrison as the head honcho at ECB.
