IPL 2022 | Rishabh Pant fined for maintaining slow over rate against LSG

The 15th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 finished with the Super Giants winning the game by six wickets after chasing down the target of 150 runs. But, unfortunately, Rishabh Pant failed to do justice with the bat in the ongoing tournament, as despite him being on the crease, the Capitals couldn't manage to post a good target on board.

Adding to the misery, the Delhi skipper was fined INR 1.2 million after failing to maintain the required over-rate at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

"The Delhi Capitals have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on April 7," said IPL in an official release.

Notably, this was Pant's first offence and hence wasn't fined much, and other players were not penalised as well.

"As it was the team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was fined ₹12 lakhs," the release added.

After putting to bat first, the Capitals posted a decent total of 149 onboard, which LSG chased down with ease, thanks to Quinton de Kock's 80 off 52 balls and Ayush Badoni's quick 10 runs. DC has now slipped down to the seventh spot of the IPL 2022 standings following this defeat with one win from three games.

"When the dew is like that you can't be complaining, as a batting unit we were 10-15 short. At the end Avesh and Holder pulled it back, credit to them. We were talking about giving 100 per cent till the last ball of the 40th over, no matter what happens [on his chat to the team before the start of the second innings].

The powerplay was fine, we didn't get any wicket, our spin attack did well in the middle overs but in the end we were 10-15 short," said Pant in a post-match presentation.

Delhi Capitals are scheduled to play their fourth match against Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders on April 10 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
