Vikram Solanki resigns as Surrey head coach to join Ahmedabad IPL franchise

Former England batter Vikram Solanki has resigned as Surrey's head coach with immediate effect. He is slated to join the new Ahmedabad franchise in the IPL as Director of Cricket.

Solanki will be a part of the staff that comprises Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten. The three former cricketers have worked together earlier with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2019.

"Surrey has been an extremely valuable part of my life for the last nine years, both as a player and as a coach, making the decision to leave a difficult one," Solanki said. "I am forever grateful for the level of support that has always been afforded to me and my family during my time here. A special thank you too to Alec Stewart who has been a mentor and a guide."

"I will always remain inspired by all the interactions and learnings with players and staff I have had the good fortune of working so closely with. There are many respected friendships I will cherish for a lifetime."

"Finally, it has been a privilege to serve this great club in the small way I have, and it has been an honour to have been the head coach of Surrey for the last two years. To all the players, staff and Members, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!" added Solanki.

The mega auctions of the IPL will be taking place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. Ahmedabad and Lucknow are the two new franchises that are joining the cash-rich league.

U19 World Cup 2022: Five Indian players including captain Yash Dhull ruled out of game against Uganda

The India U19 team suffered a major blow after five players were ruled out of the World Cup clash against Uganda scheduled to take place on Saturday (January 22, 2021). The five cricketers including captain Yash DHull have tested positive for Covid-19 in the latest RT-PCR test. "Out of the six players, who were isolated before the match against Ireland on Wednesday, only all-rounder Vasu Vats tested negative," an ICC source told PTI. Dhull, Aaradhya Yadav and Shaik Rasheed had earlier tested positive in the Rapid Antigen Test and have now returned positive in the RT-PCR test as well. Manav Parakh had tested negative in RAT but has now returned positive in RT-PCR while Sidharth Yadav had already tested positive in the RT-PCR before India's clash against Ireland. "One positive out of this unfortunate situation is that the 11 who played against Ireland have all tested negative," said the ICC source. The Indian team is already through to the quarterfinals after winning the first two games against South Africa and Ireland and will play Uganda now.

South Africa were off to a flying start during the run chase against India in the second ODI of the three-match series in Paarl. At the time of writing, South Africa were 122/0 in 20 overs. The home side in presentlt leading the series 1-0 and a win in this encounter would give them an unassailable lead. India seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar had been the most expensive bowler so far after he gave away 40 runs in 4 overs that he bowled.

2nd ODI: Batting masterclass from Rahul, Pant, Shardul's late surge helps India put fighting total

India's Shardul Thakur unleashed another brilliant show with the bat against South Africa in the second match of the three-match series. The right-handed batsman notched up an unbeaten 40 off 38 which included three fours and a maximum. India were reduced to 239/5 in the 44th over of the innings when Thakur was joined by R Ashwin in the middle. The two batters then stitched a partnership of 48* runs for the sixth wicket. Ashwin also remained not out for 25 off 24 deliveries. Earlier, after winning the toss, India's stand-in captain KL Rahul opted to bat first and provided the visitors with a steady start along with Shikhar Dhawan. the dup put up 63 on the board for the first wicket but Dhawan departed for 29. India then suffered another blow with Kohli's dismissal for a five-ball duck. The side was in a spot of bother at 64/2 before Rahul and Rishabh pant joined hands to provide the resistance. They put up 115 runs for the third wicket and both the batsmen notched up individual fifties. While KL scored 55, Pant struck a brisk 85 during the course. But the Proteas again got back on track with three quick wickets which included the dismissals of Rahul, Pant, and Shreyas Iyer. India eventually put up 287/6 in 50 overs on the board.

BBL 2021-22: Adelaide Strikers register Knockout berth, beat Hobart Hurricanes in Eliminator

Adelaide Strikers made a place for themselves in the knockout of the BBL 2021-22 after beating Hobart Hurricanes in the Eliminator match by 22 runs in Melbourne on Friday. The Strikers rode on a riveting bowling performance especially from Peter Siddle who bagged four wickets for 32 runs in 3.4 overs as the Hurricanes were bundled out for 166 while chasing 189 in 20 overs. The Hobart side didn't really have a great start to the proceedings and they lost wickets at regular intervals to get reduced to 67/3 in the 10th over. But D Arcy Short then took the onus on himself and held the fort at one end as he notched up a 34-ball 56. But Short's departure pushed the Hurricanes on the back foot once again as they lost wickets at regular intervals to eventually get bowled out. Earlier, in the day, openers Alex Carey and Matthew Short provided the side with a brilliant stand of 145 runs for the first wicket. While Carey scored 67 in 45 balls, Short smashed 89 in 48 deliveries. But Adelaide then lost a few wickets after the departure of both the openers and were restricted to 188/6 in 20 overs.
