2nd ODI: Batting masterclass from Rahul, Pant, Shardul's late surge helps India put fighting total

India's Shardul Thakur unleashed another brilliant show with the bat against South Africa in the second match of the three-match series. The right-handed batsman notched up an unbeaten 40 off 38 which included three fours and a maximum. 

India were reduced to 239/5 in the 44th over of the innings when Thakur was joined by R Ashwin in the middle. 

The two batters then stitched a partnership of 48* runs for the sixth wicket. Ashwin also remained not out for 25 off 24 deliveries. 

Earlier, after winning the toss, India's stand-in captain KL Rahul opted to bat first and provided the visitors with a steady start along with Shikhar Dhawan. the dup put up 63 on the board for the first wicket but Dhawan departed for 29. 

India then suffered another blow with Kohli's dismissal for a five-ball duck. The side was in a spot of bother at 64/2 before Rahul and Rishabh pant joined hands to provide the resistance. They put up 115 runs for the third wicket and both the batsmen notched up individual fifties. 

While KL scored 55, Pant struck a brisk 85 during the course. But the Proteas again got back on track with three quick wickets which included the dismissals of Rahul, Pant, and Shreyas Iyer. India eventually put up 287/6 in 50 overs on the board.
