Tuba Hassan wins ICC Women's Player of the Month for May

The talented Pakistan leg-spinner Tuba Hassan has won the Player of the Month award for May 2022.

Earlier this month, Hassan was named in the T20I squad for the home series against Sri Lanka after impressing selectors in the emerging camp last December.

The young tweaker made her debut in the shortest format in the first fixture against the Lankans, finishing with figures of 3/8 in four overs, and earned the Player of the Match award, with Pakistan winning the match by a comfortable margin.

The 21-year-old spinner followed it up with figures of 1/13 and 1/23 in the subsequent games in her full quota of overs and thus helped the team complete a series whitewash. In the series, she bagged five wickets with a staggering economy of 3.66.

In this pursuit, Tuba has also become the first Pakistan cricketer to receive the ICC Women's Player of the Month award.

The list also included Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof and Trinity Smith as nominees, but ICC's elite panel picked the wily leg-spinner ahead of the seasoned campaigners.

Notably, Maroof garnered 65 runs in three games of the T20I series against Sri Lanka and emerged as the highest run-scorer. Her best knock of 28 came in the first fixture of the series, which made sure the team chased down the score in a successful manner.

On the other hand, Trinity made her T20I debut in the Women's T20I Quadrangular Series and scored 120 runs in four games while registering a top score of 59*.
