  • Tnpl 2022 Smp Vs Rtw Kousiks Four Fer Sets Up Madurais Thumping Victory Over Depleted Ruby Trichy Warriors

TNPL 2022 | SMP vs RTW | Kousik's four-fer sets up Madurai's thumping victory over depleted Ruby Trichy Warriors

Siechem Madurai Panthers, riding on the riveting spell of Jagatheesan Kousik, mauled Ruby Trichy Warriors by 36 runs in the low-scoring affair contested at Salem yesterday.

Ruby Trichy Warriors got off to a decent start in the chase of 137 as the opening duo of V Amith Sathvik (28-ball 23) and S Santosh Shiv (26-ball 31) shared a 44-run stand for the first wicket.

However, before they could extend the partnership, Kosuik removed the pair in a quick time to leave the opposition languishing at 59/2 in 9.4 overs.

The duo's dismissal opened up the floodgates for the Madurai Panthers to make a comeback as they never allowed any RTW batter to settle in the middle.

Except for the opening duo, only Adithya Ganesh (10) and M Atheeq Ur Rahman (11) could score in double digits as Ruby Trichy Warriors skittled out for just 100 runs with eight balls remaining.

Besides Kousik, who claimed a four-fer, the star spinner Varun Chakravarthy and the right-arm seamer Kiran Akash bagged two wickets each.

Panthers post a competitive total, thanks to a collective batting effort

Earlier, Siechem Madurai Panthers, after being sent to bat first, did not get the best of the start losing their opener Arun Karthik in the second over for just five runs.

V Aaditya and Balchander Anirudh then batted cautiously. They notched up a half-century stand (58 runs off 50 balls) for the second wicket, taking the team's total to 70 runs before Anirudh got run out for 34.

Aaditya followed him in the next over as Poiyamozhi took a jaw-dropping catch off M Sanjay's bowling to dismiss him for 26 runs.

NS Chaturved and Jagatheesan Kousik then steadied the ship for the Panthers.

While Kousik scored 22 runs, Chaturved could manage only 15 runs.

However, Sunny Sandhu's exhilarating knock of 24 runs off just eight balls, laced with three maximums and a boundary, propelled the Panthers to a decent total of 136 at the end of the first inning.

M Poiyamozhi spearheaded the Warriors' bowling attack, picking up two wickets from four overs. In addition, Rahil Shah, M Atheeq Ur Rahman, and M Sanjay got one wicket to their names.

Brief Scores:

Siechem Madurai Panthers: 136/6 (20 Overs)

Balchander Anirudh 34 (26), V Aaditya 26 (34);

M Poiyamozhi 2-24 (4)

Ruby Trichy Warriors: 100 all out (18.4 Overs)

''The bowlers have played in the IPL, so they have exposure''- Yuzvendra Chahal

India's white-ball specialist Yuzvendra Chahal has opined that young bowlers, especially the seamers, have benefitted from playing against the best players in the world consistently during the Indian Premier League (IPL). Over the course of the last two years, India has produced a number of quality seamers like T Natarajan, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna and Umran Malik. In the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies, India has gone with the likes of Siraj, Krishna and Avesh. While Krishna played in the 1st game, Avesh made his ODI debut in the ongoing game. "It's a young team. The bowlers have played in the IPL, so they have exposure and they create a good attack," Chahal was quoted by India Today. The rookie seamers came under severe pressure in the last game but Siraj kept his nerves till the end to help the visitors eke out a 3-run win. "I loved starting late as it meant going against power-hitters"- Yuzvendra Chahal Speaking of the 1st ODI, Chahal was once again amongst the wickets. The wrist-spinner claimed two crucial scalps of Brandon King and Rovman Powell in his 2nd spell to peg the Windies back. Reacting to his performance, Chahal said that he loved the challenge of bowling on a surface that wasn't offering him much and against batters who were looking to attack every ball. "I loved starting late as it meant going against power-hitters. They played well with the ball not spinning early on. Then we wanted to get 2-3 wickets to bring it in our favour and did. It's great to see how they're playing and take the game close, as exciting ODIs are good," he added. Meanwhile, Kyle Mayers' blistering cameo (39 off 23) has helped the West Indies get off to a great start. West Indies posted a target of 312 to the visitors thanks to a brilliant ton from Shai Hope.
