Three Manchester Originals players to watch out for

The second edition of The Hundred – men’s competition has kicked off and the tournament has already attracted viewers' interest. Eight teams are taking part in the competition and all eight sides have the potential to claim the ultimate prize on September 3.

One of the top contenders will surely be Manchester Originals. The Originals did not have a great season last year, finishing sixth on the table with six points. They lost four games and won only two, with two matches getting washed out. But this time they have a star-studded lineup and will need to make the most of the time as they will have all their players available including captain Jos Buttler. Look at the names in the squad: Jos Buttler, Andre Russell, Matt Parkinson, Richard Gleeson, and Phil Salt could be in the playing eleven. There is genuine match-winning potential at every stage here.

In this article, we look at the three Manchester Originals players who can have a real impact on the second edition of The Hundred.

Jos Buttler

The biggest plus for the Originals this season is the availability of their captain. Unlike last season, Buttler will be available for the whole season as he is not in the red-ball plans of England. This year, Originals will have full access to Buttler's composed talismanic T20 batting skills at the top.

Batting at the top of the order will give Buttler an opportunity to maximise his power and push the team to big scores. Buttler didn't have the best of summers neither with the bat nor as a captain. However, it’s hard to stop him when he is on song. Under his leadership, Manchester will try to improve their position from last year, when they finished sixth in the points table.

Andre Russell

Andre Russell is arguably the most dangerous and impactful T20 player in the globe and that is because of his ability to change the game with his all-around skills. He is an explosive lower middle-order batter and has a canny ability to pick crucial wickets for his side.

With the Caribbean Premier League 2022 starting on August 30, Russell is expected to miss the business end of the tournament. However, the global T20 superstar will be looking to make sure that he gives it all to help his side reach the knockout stages before he leaves for the CPL 2022.

Richard Gleeson

Gleeson is a late bloomer who proved that it is never too late to make your presence felt on the international stage when he made his T20I debut for England earlier this summer at the age of 34. The right-arm seamer will be the leader of the pack in the bowling department.

He's not express pace, granted, but oozes hostility thanks to his immaculate control over his line and length and ability to generate bounce off any wicket. Noted for his ability to bowl the tough overs in the backend, the speed merchant will pose a serious threat to the batters throughout the 100-ball competition.
