The Hundred 2022 | Vettori appointed as head coach for Birmingham Phoenix

With Andrew McDonald stepping up to the mantle of the head coach of the Australian national team, the Birmingham Phoenix have decided to rope in ex-Black Cap Daniel Vettori as their new head coach ahead of the upcoming edition of the Hundred.

Vettori was a part of the Edgbaston based franchise last season as the team made their way to the finals of the tournament. Vettori has built a name for himself since his days as a New Zealand national team player. The Kiwi legend has made 441 appearances for the team in all formats in his career span of 18 years.

The ex-cricketer turned coach has a solid resume to back his name for the position, with serving as a member of the coaching staff at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League, followed by his stints at Barbados Royals (BR) in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Brisbane Heat (BH) in the Big Bash League.

Vettori spoke to the media about his new role at the franchise

"I absolutely loved my time working with the Birmingham Phoenix squad as head coach last summer, so taking on the role permanently was a very easy decision."

He added, "We made great strides in the first season, and all coaches and players loved seeing the tournament develop, and we had such great support every time that we took to the field at Edgbaston."

The recently concluded draft for the Hundred saw the Birmingham Phoenix rope in big names in Matthew Wade, Warwickshire and England quick Olly Stone, Kane Richardson and Matthew Fisher for the upcoming season.

With the presence of other superstar players such as Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Adam Milne and Chris Woakes, the Phoenix will hope to clinch the title that evaded them last season.
