Zaib will miss the upcoming games for Northamptonshire's run in the Royal London Cup
Northamptonshire star batter Saif Zaib had been rewarded for his stellar batting performances in the ongoing season of the Royal London One-Day Cup, including his maiden List A century against Essex on Sunday.
The 24-year-old has been signed by Northern Superchargers on a short-term deal in the ongoing The Hundred tournament.
The deal would last for the next seven days, implying Zaib will miss Northamptonshire’s upcoming Royal London Cup fixtures against Hampshire and Glamorgan.
“I’m excited to be linking up with the Northern Superchargers this week,” Zaib said.
“It’s obviously my first taste of the new format so I’m looking forward to getting going. It’s a great opportunity to be involved, even if it’s only for a couple of games.”
The left-handed batter recorded his career-best score of 136 runs from just 101 deliveries as Northamptonshire pulled off their highest ever run chase in one-day cricket to beat Essex in a high-voltage encounter on Sunday (August 7).
Will be supporting the lads from afar: Saif Zaib
While Zaib won’t be part of the Club for this week's fixture, the 24-year-old said he’ll still be cheering and backing his teammates to come good on the field in the upcoming games.
"I’ll definitely be supporting the lads from afar,” Zaib said. The live stream will be on for sure and I’m backing the boys to get it done while I’m away," Zaib added.
Meanwhile, Said Zaib is the second of the club's players to have been signed by The Hundred franchise. Earlier Northamptonshire skipper Josh Cobb was slotted in by Welsh Fire.
As far as Northern Superchargers are concerned, the Faf du Plessis-led side has played one match so far in the ongoing edition of the 100-ball tournament, where they emerged victorious by six wickets.
The Superchargers are currently placed third in the points ranking and will take on Trent Rockets in their next fixture, which is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, August 9.
