‘The fight shown by the Irish batters was commendable’, tweets VVS Laxman

India pulled off a thrilling victory in the second T20I against Ireland, thereby whitewashing the hosts in the two-match series.

Chasing a mammoth target of 226 runs, Ireland fell short by just four runs, courtesy of a magnificent final over by the young Indian speedster Umran Malik.

Although Ireland lost the match by a narrow margin, the valiant efforts of their batters were highly applauded by the global cricket experts, including the legendary Indian ex-cricketer VVS Laxman.

In the aftermath of India's emphatic series victory, Laxman, who served as India's head coach, stressed on a wonderful experience in Ireland.

The stylish right-handed batter from Hyderabad termed the performance of the Indian team in the series as 'fantastic'. He also commended the extraordinary fight and the positive approach exhibited by the Irish batters during the chase in the second T20I.

"Had a wonderful time and a great experience here," Laxman tweeted.

"The way our boys played was fantastic. The fight shown by the Irish batters & their approach tonight was commendable!".

Laxman, who represented India in 220 international matches, thanked Ireland for being generous hosts and admitted to being pleased with the emergence of young talents in Irish cricket.

"Great to see such young talents coming up here. Thank you, Ireland, for hosting us," the 47-year-old concluded.

After the clinical series victory against the Irishmen, the Men in Blue will gear up for the English challenge across formats, which commences on 1st July, with the final Test of the five-match series in Birmingham.
