In what could derail Australia's winning chances in the upcoming 'The Ashes 2023', batter Steven Smith was struck on the finger during practice in a major injury scare for the management on Wednesday. Smith ended his session after getting hit and was seen wincing in pain while being attended by physios as per a report in Sportskeeda.

Smith is coming off a match-winning hundred against India in the recently concluded ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023, where Australia emerged victorious. The batter is crucial for Australia's success in the Ashes, given his excellent track record in England, having scored 1,848 runs and slammed seven centuries.

Ahead of the first Test, which begins on Friday at Edgbaston, the ICC Ranked No.2 Test Batter, talked in brief about adapting to whatever challenge England throws at Australia.

Here's what Smith said

“Think we’ve seen the last few months that they do some funky things and they are going to have to try some different things at certain times. One of my big strengths is being able to adapt on the go and understand what they are trying to do and sort of solve the problem out in the middle.I’ll just focus on my game and try and counter each thing they come at me with, but we are expecting some different stuff, that’s for sure,"

Smith will hope to win his first Ashes in England, with Australia last winning the coveted urn back in 2001.
