Pakistan cricket has been blessed with a factory of fast bowlers over the years. These speedsters have brought laurels to the nation time and again.
Wasim Akram, widely regarded as one of the best exponents of swing bowling, has across his career bowled in tandem with legends like Imran Khan, Sarfaraz Nawaz, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar.
After his retirement, Mohammad Asif was expected to carry on the bowling legacy forward, but Asif lost his way by indulging in spot-fixing in 2010.
Despite serving his seven-year ban for deliberately bowling no-balls and pre-planning deliveries, Asif never made a comeback in international cricket for Pakistan.
Speaking on the To Be Honest 3.0 show, Akram said Asif, despite all this talent, couldn't do justice.
"Everyone raves about Mohammad Asif. I mean talent wasted no doubt. Whoever I talk to...that kind of bowler I saw after a long time. Jis tareeke se control karta tha ball ko. He could swing both ways. It's very unfortunate for him and of course for Pakistan too," Akram added.
Asif's spell during India's tour of Pakistan in 2005-06 was his breakthrough moment in international cricket. He played 23 Tests, 38 ODIs, and 11 T20Is for Pakistan, picking up 165 wickets overall.
Mohammad Amir, who was also involved in the spot-fixing scandal, made a comeback into international cricket after receiving backing from PCB, unlike Asif and former skipper Salman Butt.
Asif was recently seen along with former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, advising young cricketers tips during season two of the Unity Cup Tournament held in Virginia.
