Bangladesh's batters have struggled to perform in the ongoing Test series against West Indies. The hosts, led by Kraigg Braithwaite, lead the 2-match series 1-0, winning the Antigua match by seven wickets.
Visiting skipper Shakib Al Hasan has urged his batters to survive the first two hours of the upcoming second and final Test at St Lucia.
Shakib has already blamed his batsman for a poor showing on Day 1 of the opening Test, where they skittled out for 103, costing them the game.
They lost as many as six wickets in the morning session itself.
In a report in IndiaToday, he said, "We can only focus on the first two hours of tomorrow's match, and we have to do well at that point of time whether we are bowling or batting and later we can play according to the match situation."
The former number one Test all-rounder expects the track at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium to be more friendly for the batters, as opposed to a tacky one in Guyana.
"The opening day, we will have a better wicket than Antigua to bat. I think there will be pace and bounce but there won't be sideways movement, but until we are playing it is hard to say how the wicket will behave. When we start the innings after 15 to 20 minutes, we can say how the wicket will behave," he stated.
To round it off, Shakib admitted that the Bangla Tiger batters have been ubable to perform in tough conditions, but hoped that this would change on June 24.
"If you look at the last three Tests, then you can say that (there is weakness against pace). If you see the two Tests before that, you will say it was spin. We always fail to stay on the wicket in difficult conditions. This is an opportunity and a challenge and let's see how we can overcome it," Shakib concluded.
The captain recorded two fifties in the last Test, where others struggled to find footing.
