T20 Blast 2022 | SOM vs DER | Preview, Prediction, Probable XI, CREX XI

Somerset and Derbyshire are all set to lock horns against each other in the final quarter-final of the English T20 Vitality Blast. Somerset finished second in the South Group, whereas Derbyshire qualified from the third spot in the North Group. The fixture will be played at Taunton, which has played host to a couple of high-scoring encounters.

Somerset have been on a roll off-late, claiming three back-to-back victories. Tom Abell and Co. completely outplayed Surrey in their last encounter, handing them a 47-run defeat. Opening batter Will Smeed inflicted the maximum damage, scoring 98 runs off just 51 balls.

Derbyshire have also been in good form coming into the knockout stages. In their last encounter, the Shan Masood-led side claimed a five-wicket victory over Durham. As a result, they ended the league campaign with 18 points to their name, despite an ordinary start to the tournament.

In an unfortunate turn of events, the Derbyshire skipper Shan Masood is going to miss this crucial encounter owing to his national commitments. Masood has amassed 547 runs at a stupendous average of 45.58, which is why his absence can be termed as a massive blow for the Derby-based County cricket club.

Harry Came is expected to replace Masood and Leus du Plooy will lead the team in his absence.

On the other hand, after a blistering start to the campaign, Rilee Roussouw has had a dip in form. Nevertheless, he has scored 507 runs at an average of 46.09 in the league stage.

George Scrimshaw is the top wicket-taker for Derbyshire, with 21 wickets at an average of just over 23. This is the first time the two sides will lock horns against each other in this competition.

Mohammad Wasim explains why Mohammad Nawaz is a better choice as spinner over Imad Wasim

Pakistan men's cricket team chief selector Mohammad Wasim has said that left-arm orthodox Mohammad Nawaz is a better option than Imad Wasim. Nawaz has been at the height of his powers in recent times. The 28-year-old claimed seven wickets in the by-gone three-match ODI series against the West Indies, which Pakistan won by a margin of 3-0. He has now earned a call-up to the Test squad for the upcoming two-match series in Sri Lanka. Speaking on veteran journalist Waheed Khan's YouTube channel, Wasim said that Nawaz had improved massively in terms of his fitness and performance, while Wasim has been faltering in both facets in recent times. "Imad's performance in the recent past wasn't up to the mark. He also has fitness issues which is why he is suffering," Wasim was quoted by Cricket Pakistan. "Currently, we have high fitness standards in the team. And, it is visible in the team's performance," he added. "Looking at his [Nawaz] performance, his fitness and performance are going good currently," said Wasim. The all-rounder has not played any international cricket since last year's T20 World Cup in the Gulf nation. During this phase, Nawaz has pipped him in the pecking order on the back of impressive performances in domestic cricket and in the international games he has played. The left-arm orthodox will now look to make a mark in the longest format of the game when Babar Azam's team locks horns with Lanka later this month. The 1st Test will take place in Galle from July 16, while the second will commence in Colombo on July 24. Pakistan's squad for Sri Lanka Tests: Babar Azam (C), Mohammad Rizwan (VC & WK), Shaheen Afridi, Yashir Shah, Azhar Ali, Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Sarfaraz Ahmed (WK), Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Nauman Ali, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shan Masood
