Sam Curran eyes Test recall through his performances in white-ball cricket

England all-rounder Sam Curran who missed almost six months of cricket because of a stress fracture of the back is fit and part of the England squad for the ongoing white-ball series against India.

 

Curran showed some exemplary fielding in the first T20I against India. However, the England side was 50 runs short to chase the target of 199 to win.

 

With this series against India, Jos Buttler started his stint as the new white-ball captain. Curran said, “With a new white-ball coach [Matthew Mott] and a new captain that will take a little bit of time to get used to, but I don't think much will change. Guys will keep coming as batters, keep coming as bowlers.” 

 

Talking about England’s aggressive approach to Test cricket as they won four matches in a row, Curran mentioned, “The way the Test team has played the last four games has been incredible to watch.” 

 

Curran eyes Test return


South Africa will be touring England next month for 3 Test matches and 6 limited-overs fixtures. Curran, who has represented England in 24 Test matches, added that he would love to be a part of that group in the near future. 

 

As the all-rounder recently came out of the injury, Curran feels that at the moment his focus is on the ongoing white-ball series. Through this series, he aims to rebuild himself and be completely fit for upcoming fixtures in August.

 

Curran added that he is pleased to be back in the England squad. He is not putting too much pressure on himself, taking one game at a time and focusing on his performances.

 

India will face England for the second T20I at Edgbaston on Saturday. England will be looking to bounce back to level up the series. With Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer available, England will hope to add all-rounder David Willey, pacer Richard Gleeson and batter Phil Salt to the squad.

Pakistan men's cricket team chief selector Mohammad Wasim has said that left-arm orthodox Mohammad Nawaz is a better option than Imad Wasim. Nawaz has been at the height of his powers in recent times. The 28-year-old claimed seven wickets in the by-gone three-match ODI series against the West Indies, which Pakistan won by a margin of 3-0. He has now earned a call-up to the Test squad for the upcoming two-match series in Sri Lanka. Speaking on veteran journalist Waheed Khan's YouTube channel, Wasim said that Nawaz had improved massively in terms of his fitness and performance, while Wasim has been faltering in both facets in recent times. "Imad's performance in the recent past wasn't up to the mark. He also has fitness issues which is why he is suffering," Wasim was quoted by Cricket Pakistan. "Currently, we have high fitness standards in the team. And, it is visible in the team's performance," he added. "Looking at his [Nawaz] performance, his fitness and performance are going good currently," said Wasim. The all-rounder has not played any international cricket since last year's T20 World Cup in the Gulf nation. During this phase, Nawaz has pipped him in the pecking order on the back of impressive performances in domestic cricket and in the international games he has played. The left-arm orthodox will now look to make a mark in the longest format of the game when Babar Azam's team locks horns with Lanka later this month. The 1st Test will take place in Galle from July 16, while the second will commence in Colombo on July 24. Reports: Team India to tour Australia twice in the next FTP cycle from 2024-2032

In recent developments, Team India reportedly is set to tour Australia twice in the next Future Tours Programme (FTP) cycle, starting from 2024-2032. The report states that both the teams will play five-match Test series instead of the usual four games. The full FTP is expected to be announced formally later this month, around the ICC's annual meeting in Birmingham, which is scheduled to take place on July 25 and 26. According to 'The Age', the reports further added that Australian cricketing body Cricket Australia (CA) had informed domestic and international broadcasters that both India and England would tour the Down Under country for two full Test tours in the upcoming cycle. The ongoing ICC FTP, running from 2018, will finish with the men's 50-over ICC World Cup in 2023, which is set to be played in India in October-November next year. "[Cricket Australia] recently informed a range of broadcasters, both domestic and international, of the fact that it has secured two full Test tours by each of India and England over the next FTP, with India's tours increased from four to five-match series," the report stated. Team India last toured Australia in 2021, where they swatted the mighty Aussies 2-1 in the four-match Test series. The visitors went on to clinch the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), drew the Sydney Test and in a terrific turnaround, they scripted history by defeating the Aussies at their fortress – The Gabba. The Indian team has always been a monetary hub for fellow struggling cricket boards and hence it did not come as a surprise when Cricket Australia (CA), at the end of the last four-match series, acknowledged the efforts and sacrifices BCCI made to ensure a steady conduct of the series amid Covid-19. Notably, the lucrative four-match Test series, which turned out to be the blockbuster series Down Under against India, helped Australia earn a projected revenue of AUD 300 million. "Seasons without Test-match visits by England or India generally mean a reduction in crowds and broadcast audiences - part of the reason why CA itself works on a multi-year financial model to balance fluctuations in the international schedule," said the report in the leading Australian daily. The Men in Blue, both in 2018-19 and 2020-21 won the Test series against Australia on their soil. Prior to 2018, India had never won a Test series Down Under.
