T20 Blast 2022 | Rilee Rossou blitz despite losing effort steals the night

Somerset vs Sussex

Both the sides met at Taunton, with Somerset winning the toss and opting to bowl first.

It was a flourish at the top-order from Josh Phillipe (70 off 43), which provided a terrific start to the team, with over 60 runs in the powerplay overs. Captain Ravi Bopara proved to be decent support in the middle-order with 48 off 34 balls to help the team post 216 on the board. Josh Davey was the pick of the bowler with three wickets.

In reply, Somerset lost Will Smeed (5) and Tom Banton (7) in quick succession. After that, the Protea batter Rilee Rossouw played a blinder of an innings to accumulate 74 off 29 balls, comprising eight fours and five sixes. However, it could not prove to be enough for the home team, as they were dismissed for 169 and lost by 47 runs.

Brief scores:

Sussex- 216/7 (20)

Josh Phillipe 70 (43), Ravi Bopara 48 (34)

Josh Davey 3/45

Somerset - 169/10 (18.5)

Surrey vs Gloucestershire

Both the teams faced off against each other at Bristol, and Surrey were invited to bat first, at a surface which has proved to be a belter.

However, Joe Denly (0) and Daniel Bell Drummond (7) were dismissed in the first four overs. The partnership between Jordan Cox (48) and Sam Billings (22) was the saving grace for the team, as they could post only 114 on the board. David Payne led the bowling attack with four wickets and celebrated his call-up to the England side.

In reply, the home team could garner only 50 runs in the first eight overs, with the loss of four wickets. The team’s top scorer in the last league match, James Bracey, was dismissed for 8 off 14. But an unbeaten stand of 70 runs from Glenn Phillips (50) and Jack Taylor (31) took the team past the finish line.

Brief scores:

Kent - 114/10 (19.3)

Jordan Cox 48 (27), Sam Billings 22 (18);

David Payne 4/15

Gloucestershire- 116/4 (14.3)
