T20 Blast 2022 | Mohammad Rizwan's 81 in vain as Glamorgan pips Sussex

Glamorgan registered their opening points of the 2022 T20 Blast with an impressive win over Sussex. Set in South Group, the match marked the opening game for both sides this season. Earlier, Glamorgan captain David Lloyd had won the toss and opted to field first.

Sussex recovered from early setbacks to post a competitive 150-6 from their allotted overs. Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan faced 60 cherries to record a fluent 81, and his innings comprised six boundaries and three sixes. No other batsmen went past 13, with captain Ravi Bopara himself falling cheaply for just 11.

Glamorgan's 40-year-old star and seasoned campaigner Michael Hogan was among the pick of the bowlers from his side, claiming figures of 3-26 of his four overs.

The second half of the match saw the visitors losing their captain David Lloyd early in their run-chase. An 82-run second-wicket stand between Sam Northeast and Australian Test star Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship for Glamorgan. While the Australian departed after scoring 41, Northeast drafted a structured 63* from 52 balls to seal the chase for his side.

Glamorgan won the match with seven wickets and seven balls in hand, thus joining Middlesex and Somerset among South Group teams with wins in the season's opening matches.
