T20 Blast 2022 | GLA vs SOM | Preview, Prediction, Probable XI, CREX XI

We are nearing the end of the English T20 Blast league stage, as Glamorgan and Somerset lock horns against each other in Match 105. The outcome of this fixture will have quite a bit of significance as to how the South Group pans out. A win for Somerset could all but guarantee them a spot in the quarterfinals.

Somerset come into this fixture on the back of consecutive defeats to Hampshire and Surrey. They were handed a narrow 14-run defeat in their last outing against Hampshire, chasing down a huge total of 209 runs.

The visitors are placed second on the points table, with 14 points to their name from 11 fixtures. They have claimed seven wins and faced four defeats so far.

On the other hand, Glamorgan are just about hanging in there as far as the quarterfinal race is concerned. They are placed sixth in the South Group, with four wins and five losses so far.

Two of their fixtures have been abandoned due to rain. However, contrary to their opponents, the hosts come into this fixture on the back of two consecutive wins against Middlesex and Sussex.

Glamorgan claimed a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Middlesex in their last fixture, after chasing down a total of 172 runs in less than 15 overs. Skipper, David Lloyd and Sam Northeast put on 150 runs for the first wicket partnership. Sam Northeast has been in brilliant touch this season, scoring 380 runs in 10 innings at an average of 47.50.

Left-handed batter Rilee Rossouw has been the talisman for Somerset this season. The T20 globe-trotter has scored 498 runs in 11 innings at an average of 62.25. He smashed 55 runs off just 28 balls in a losing cause against Hampshire to atleast give his side a glimmer of hope.

When the two sides faced off earlier in the month, Somerset emerged victorious by nine wickets. Will Smeed scored an unbeaten knock of 94 runs off just 41 balls to blow the opposition away. Glamorgan will certainly look to exact their revenge on Friday.

Pitch Report: The pitch at Sophia Garden has played host to low-scoring encounters this season. However, Glamorgan made a complete mockery of Middlesex bowling in the last fixture, showing that it could indeed be a batting friendly wicket. The ideal first innings score should be in the range of 170-180 runs.
