IND VS IRE 2022: Parthiv Patel names replacements of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer in the playing XI

The Indian team led by Hardik Pandya is all set to play a two-match series against Ireland on the 26th and 28th of June at Malahide, Dublin. Most of the squad consists of the players who played in the South Africa T20 series, apart from Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, who have joined the senior team in England for the final Test match.

Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi, who earned his maiden call-up for the series, are set to replace Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer.

In an interview, former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel pointed out that even though Sanju Samson had a terrific IPL season and there is a lot of build-up around the wicketkeeper-batsman's comeback into the Indian squad, he wasn't part of the South Africa squad because of fitness issues. Therefore, Deepak Hooda, who played in the last series, should get a chance ahead of Sanju Samson.

"We always talk about Sanju Samson. There's a lot of discussion about his comeback to the team. And because he's a big name, many people also want to see him play. But here, Sanju Samson was fit and he wasn't picked, which means you rate Deepak Hooda ahead of him, that's why you picked him earlier," Parthiv said.

Parthiv also highlighted that Rahul Tripathi should be utilised correctly, as he has the talent of batting at any position. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Venkatesh Iyer gets the opportunity of opening the innings in this series. Finally, Parthiv suggested that India should focus on consistency rather than experimenting with new combinations.
