T20 Blast 2022 | Dan Lawrence, Paul Walter star in Essex’s comprehensive win over Glamorgan

Essex Eagles registered their highest Vitality Blast total as they humbled Glamorgan by 69 runs. Put in to bat, the Eagles began the innings on an optimistic note, taking full advantage of the belter of a wicket.

Opener Robin Das struck the first six of the innings in the third over. Das (23 off 14) was involved in a 37-run partnership with Adam Rossington (45 off 23).

Once Daniel Lawrence arrived at the crease, the runs began to flow at a lightning rate. Together with Paul Walter, Lawrence stitched a 101-run partnership.Lawrence’s stellar 71 came off 37 balls, with eight boundaries and three sixes. Walter was not to be left behind as he plundered half-a-dozen sixes.

Taking just 23 deliveries for his 58, Walter ensured the Eagles put a humongous total on board. The finishing touches to the innings were given by Daniel Sams (21* off 10 balls), while Simon Harmer scored 12* off 4.

Chasing 255 to win, Glamorgan needed to keep up with the required run rate without losing wickets. However, they succumbed to scoreboard pressure, with only Sam Northeast keeping them in the game.

Northeast’s unbeaten 97 off 56 balls went in vain as the Eagles’ total proved improbable to scale down. Daniel Sams was the most successful bowler for the Eagles, scalping three wickets for just twenty runs.

With this win, the Eagles kept their hopes of a quarter-final at home alive. Surrey and Somerset’s encounter on 03 July will decide their fate.
