ENG vs IND | 5th Test Day 2 | Jadeja's marvellous ton, Bumrah's gung-ho, bowlers delight help India grab the upper-hand

Day 2 of the rescheduled fixture between England and India ended with the visitors making a solid claim to take the first innings lead and secure a historic victory. 

The day's proceedings began with India at 338/7 and the duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami at the crease. Jadeja fired in a few boundaries to complete his third century in the Test format. Shami (16) supported him well but was the first one to fall in the seventh over of the day off Stuart Broad. 

With this dismissal, Broad reached the milestone of 550 Test wickets. Soon, Jadeja (104) became a victim of James Anderson. 

But then came a storm named Jasprit Bumrah as it was undoubtedly one of the best days of Bumrah in international cricket, wherein he remained unbeaten on 31 off 16 balls. He hit 29 off a total of 35 runs conceded by Broad in a single over, which got etched into this history books as the most expensive over in the longest format. 

Meanwhile, Anderson scalped his 32nd five-wicket haul of his red-ball career by dismissing Mohammed Siraj (2), but the Indian team posted a total of 416 on the board. 

Then, Bumrah came back as he was accurate with his line-lengths to breach the defences of the England opener Alex Lees to clean-bowled him for 6 off 9 in the third over of the innings. Interestingly Bumrah bowled two no-balls in the same over and got the wicket on the last ball. 

In the fifth over, Zak Crawley (9) tried to drive the ball off Bumrah towards the covers but instead got holed out to Shubman Gill at the slips. 

Two wickets down, England were surely on the backfoot but rain came as a rescuer for the Three Lions. But the rain break didn't cause much harm to the momentum of the Indian skipper, as the in-form batter Ollie Pope (10) was caught at the slip cordon by Shreyas Iyer. This was the second occasion that Bumrah got a wicket on the last ball of the over after overstepping in one of the deliveries. 

Then the former Three Lions skipper Joe Root displayed resistance to the Indian bowlers until the Tea. However, the moisture embedded in the pitch due to frequent rain was a blessing in disguise for the visitors, as they came out firing with their pacers - Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj. 

In the 23rd over, Siraj was called back into the attack and immediately delivered goods by his perfectly executed bouncer, which caught Root (31) off-guard and got holed out to Rishabh Pant. 

The night-watchman Jack Leach (0) could not provide any contribution and was dismissed by Shami in the 26th over. 

At the end of the second day's play, England are at 84/5 in 27 overs, with Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes at the crease. 

It will be critical for the Indian bowlers to break the partnership of one of these players in the morning session of Day 3. If Stokes and Bairstow see through the first session, they can unleash their natural game as the ball gets softer.
