T20 Blast 2022 | Chris Lynn’s stellar unbeaten century; Masood's blistering knock take their side home

Northamptonshire vs Worcestershire

Result: Northamptonshire won by 73 runs

Northamptonshire Steelbacks brushed aside bottom-feeders Worcestershire Rapids with a dominant 73-run victory at their County Ground in Northampton. Chris Lynn’s stellar unbeaten century and Joshua Cobb’s all-around performance allowed the Steelbacks to notch up their fifth win of the season.

Opting to bat first, Northants lost Ben Curran on the third ball of the innings. His dismissal brought last match’s half-centurion, Joshua Cobb, to the crease. He teamed up with the Aussie explosive opener, Chris Lynn, to clobber Rapids’ bowlers all over the park.

Lynn was at his destructive best as Rapids found no answer to his clean striking. He pummelled eight fours and nine sixes on the way to his unbeaten 113. Cobb played the perfect foil to Lynn as he scored 50 off 30 balls, with six fours and two sixes.

Given their form, Worcestershire were unlikely to make a comeback after conceding 220 runs in 20 overs. And they succumbed under the pressure of chasing a humongous target to fall short by 73 runs. Cobb followed up his 50 with a career-best five-wicket haul. Tom Taylor snared three wickets too to keep the Rapids on the backfoot throughout.

Brief Scores: Northamptonshire 220/3 in 20 overs (Chris Lynn 113*, Joshua Cobb 50, Dwayne Bravo 15/2) defeated Worcestershire 147/10 in 16.4 overs (Ed Barnard 42, Joshua Cobb 25/5, Tom Taylor 26/3) by 73 runs

Derbyshire vs Leicestershire

Result: Derbyshire won by six wickets

Shan Masood led Derbyshire Falcons from the front to defeat Leicestershire Foxes by six wickets. Chasing 182 to win, the Falcons achieved the target with about eight balls to spare.

Masood shared a 99-run opening partnership with Luis Reece (39). His 73 came off only 32 balls as he peppered the boundary with eleven fours and a six.

Earlier, the Foxes’ top-order rallied around to post a challenging total on the board. Arron Lilley top-scored with 67 off 41 balls, which included nine fours and two sixes.

For the Falcons, Gayden Kerr and George Scrimshaw picked two wickets apiece to restrict the opposition below 200.

Brief Scores: Derbyshire 182/4 in 18.4 overs (Shan Masood 73, Luis Reece 39) defeated Leicestershire 181/6 in 20 overs (Arron Lilley 67, Hayden Kerr 25/2) by six wickets
