Was overwhelmed meeting Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni: Dewald Brevis

South Africa's teenage sensation Dewald Brevis caught everyone's attention during the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 in the West Indies, where he finished as the highest run-getter.

Mumbai Indians (MI) quickly pounced on the young lad, snapping him up for INR 3 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction. The right-hander was impressive in the nine games he featured for the Rohit Sharma-led franchise, scoring 161 runs in 7 innings, with a top score of 49.

Speaking to NDTV, Brevis opened up about his experience in the IPL and how he felt meeting the likes of Virat Kohl and MS Dhoni.

"The IPL was such a great experience. We all know it is the biggest T20 league in the world. The MI team atmosphere was amazing on and off the field. There was always lots of fun, laughter and bonding between everyone in the MI family. It is such a great honour for me to be part of MI."

"At first, I was overwhelmed meeting the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. I learnt a lot by just listening and speaking to them," he said.

Interestingly, Kohli was the young leg-spinner's first IPL scalp.

Despite not playing much cricket, Brevis was rushed into a high octane pressure environment with the Mumbai side.

"For me as a player, I like playing under pressure. I did not feel any pressure going into the IPL. I am true to myself and my game. I stay in the moment, and I cut all the noise around me. I am going out on the field to enjoy it," he explained.

Also known as 'Baby AB', Brevis revealed his relationship with South African legend AB de Villiers.

"My relationship with AB is special, and I don't talk a lot about it. We had conversations after being picked in the auction," he stated.

Brevis spoke about Indian U-19 star and CSK player Rajvardhan Hangargekar as well, with whom he played in the U19 WC.

"There was a bunch of great players in the India Under-19 team. Rajvardhan Hangargekar was one of the players that stood out for me with his all-round ability to bowl pace and his ball striking. I think he has the potential to go to the next level,"

"He is also a great person and the two of us spent a lot of time off the field," he concluded.
