Spin coach Rangana Herath to skip Bangladesh's tour of West Indies

Bangladesh will be without the services of their spin bowling coach, Rangana Herath, for the tour of the West Indies. Herath is currently with the squad preparing for the upcoming home Test series against Sri Lanka, starting May 15.

The 44-year-old will be staying with his family, given the political instability in Sri Lanka. Bangladesh are slated to play two Tests, three ODIs, and 3 T20Is against the men in maroon.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud revealed that the left-arm spinner would not be part of the travelling entourage to the West Indies.

Mahmud said, "Herath will not be available in the West Indies tour as he will be with his family."

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will most likely appoint spin-coach Sohel Islam as his replacement for the upcoming tour.

Herath was appointed spin consultant during Bangladesh's tour of Zimbabwe and had his contract extended by BCB until the end of the T20 World Cup 2022, set to take place in Australia later this year.

Bangladesh will depart for the West Indies on June 6, with the first Test commencing June 10 in Antigua and the second starting on June 24 in St Lucia.

The first two T20Is will be held in Dominica on July 2 and 3, with the third and final taking place in Guyana on July 7. The Providence Stadium will also be the host for all three ODIs.
