Somerset County Cricket Club on Thursday announced that the River Stand of the Cooper Associates County Ground will be named after legendary player James Hildreth.
The development takes place after Hildreth's outstanding contributions to the club over the years.
Last month, the proficient batter revealed his plan to retire from professional cricket at the end of the 2022 season. Making his First-Class debut in 2003, the 37-year-old has so far amassed 17994 runs in 286 matches at an average of 40.98, laced with 47 centuries.
Furthermore, Hildreth is Somerset's top-scorer in T20s, with 3906 runs and has mustered over 6000 runs in List-A as well.
Somerset CEO, Gordon Hollins claimed that a player like Hildreth deserves a fitting tribute.
James Hildreth delighted with the honour
“It’s an incredible honour. It doesn’t quite seem real yet because it hasn’t sunk in.
"When you look at some of the names on the pavilions, stands and gates here, it’s a genuine honour to be included in that list. It’s an amazing gesture from the Club and I’m truly humbled.”
