  • Some Decisions Are Life Changing Mortaza Praises Tamim Iqbal For Opting Out Of World Cup

Some decisions are life-changing: Mortaza praises Tamim Iqbal for opting out of World Cup

Tamim Iqbal the swashbuckling Bangladesh opener decided to opt-out of the T20 World Cup 2021 which is to be held in UAE and Oman in October- November citing that other Bangladesh openers are better suited for the series having continuously played the format. Former Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza has lauded Tamim for such bold and sacrificial decision making.

Posting his thoughts on his official Facebook page, Mortaza said that the current openers Naim Sheikh, Liton Das and Somya Sarkar are good players and their worth shouldn’t be judged by how they have batted on the sluggish Dhaka pitches in the recent past.

"They are playing on wickets where nobody except (Mahmudullah) Riyad has touched fifty. It would be unfair to judge Soumya, Naim and Liton before they get to play on true batting wickets. These boys have worked hard in the (home) series,” wrote the 37-year-old.

Terming this decision by Tamim as life-changing not just for him but for junior openers as well, Mortaza, also an MP in Bangladesh Parliament said, "Some decisions change people's lives. After this decision, Soumya, Liton and Naim will give their all when they next play an ODI under Tamim. This is because whatever anyone else thought, Tamim valued their hard work.”

"Tamim is well-liked in the dressing room but maybe he thought deeply about how he would be welcomed into the side after he missed 16 (sic 12) matches in the format," he added.

BCB president Nazmul Hassan also commended the 32-year-old openers decision saying that it takes courage to give away playing a World Cup purely because you did not merit according to the situation.

"He was our first choice. He was in the T20 World Cup squad. But after he informed us, he is no longer in the team. He will play more World Cups in the future. It was a brave decision, not an easy one,” Hassan said.

"Everyone wants to play the World Cup, but he thought about it and then spoke to us. He thought it would be an injustice if he gets to play ahead of those playing now," added the BCB chief.

Tamim Iqbal, after making his T20I debut in 2007 has played 78 matches for Bangladesh.

Pressure will be on India: Pak skipper Babar Azam on the mega clash in T20 World Cup 2021

Pakistan skipper Babarazam has thrown the ball in India skipper Virat Kohli’s court ahead of the mega India- Pakistan clash in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Babr said that the pressure would be on India as they are the more fancied side in the clash. "I think India will be under more pressure as compared to Pakistan during the World Cup match,” Babar was quoted as saying by cricket.com The two teams are supposed to meet each other on October 24 at 07:30 pm Indian Standard Time in Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. It would be the second game of the day. Babar, the number one ranked ODI and number two ranked T20I batter was fairly confident about playing in the UAE saying that it is like home to his team. "It is like playing at our home ground when we play at UAE venues and we want to give our 100 per cent on the field coupled with that,’ he said. There is little doubt in Babar’s claims about UAE being their second home as Pakistan played its home international fixtures in UAE ever since the 2009 Lahore attack on Sri Lankan cricketers. It is only 2020 that West Indies, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh toured Pakistan and international cricket began once again. At the end of the chat, the 26-year-old Lahore born said that his team would like to, ‘start our campaign by defeating India." Both India and Pakistan are drawn in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage alongside New Zealand and two teams making it through the Qualifying round which begins on October 17.

IRE vs ZIM | Mark Adair’s career-best bowling figures gives Ireland unassailable lead in T20I series

Ireland registered a comfortable win by 64 runs against a Zimbabwean side that had no clue about Mark Adair’s bowling as he claimed his career-best figures of 4-23 to restrict the African side to 110-9 in their 175 run chase, thereby handing his team an all-important victory which put them in the driver’s seat in the series. With this win at the Bready Cricket Club Ground, the Irish team took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match T20I series. The Zimbabwean chase never looked like going anywhere as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Regis Chakabva who looked good till his short stay was unconvinced by the umpire’s decision to give him out after the ball was caught behind the wickets by Neil Rock of the bowling of Adair. Skipper Craig Ervine top-scored for the men in red with 28 from 30 balls. Luke Jongwe and Richard Ngarava were the other two batters to get into the double digits, remaining unbeaten with scores of 24 and 11 respectively. Apart from Adair, Shane Getkate picked two wickets while Simi Singh, Barry McCarthy and Craig Young picked one each. Earlier in the day, after being sent in to beat first, Ireland rode on the back of some brilliant innings by Kevin O’Brien (47), Paul Stirling (39) and skipper Andrew Balbirnie (36) to post 174 for the loss of only four wickets in their 20 overs. Left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza took two wickets while Jongwe and Ngarava bagged one wicket each. The two teams will now collide in the final T20I at the same venue on September 05 before moving to Belfast for the ODI series.

CPL 2021 | Roston Chase, bowlers power St Lucia Kings to huge 51 run win over Guyana

If a T20I match is being won by a margin of more than 50 runs, it’s humungous by the stature of the victory. And such a humungous victory was earned by St Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League 2021 as they defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by 51 runs to move away from the bottom of the table and to the fifth position. It was Kings' second victory in four games having previously lost to Jamaica Tallawahs and Trinbago Knight Riders. Roston Chase was the hero of the match for the Kings as he was single-handedly responsible for getting the Kings to 149 with his brilliant 85 runs coming off just 50 balls. He scored with a strike rate of more than 170, which was surprisingly brilliant as Chase is usually the anchor around whom all other players strike big. The right-hander batter hit six fours and seven sixes in his innings. He also played a crucial role with the ball picking up the all-important wicket of Warriors skipper Nicholas Pooran who looked like the only man capable of taking the men in green and red to win. The Warriors’ chase of 150 never got going as they lost way too many wickets early on to make a comeback. Obed McCoy struck twice in his two overs to get rid of the two Pakistani imports of the Guyana side. With Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik gone, the onus fell on Shimron Hetmyer and Pooran as Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj too were dismissed by Alzarri Joseph to put Warriors under all sorts of pressure at 15-4 in the sixth over. The two did add 47 for the fifth wicket, that too in just 38 balls, but Hetmyer’s run rate ended the partnership. Romario Shepherd couldn’t replicate his last match heroics with the bat and after Pooran’s dismissal, it was all over for the Warriors. At 76-9, they were staring down the lowest team total in CPL history (lowest is 80 runs by Jamaica Tallawahs) when Odean Smith took control and hit an unbeaten 31 off 18 balls to take his side to 98 before Imran Tahir was bowled by Kesrick Willaims to end the match. Chase was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant showing. Jeavor Royal, the left-arm orthodox spinner picked three wickets for the Kings, giving away just 19 runs. The Kings would now face the juggernaut of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots who haven’t lost a single game this season while Warriors would take on last-placed Barbados Royals.
