India women's practice halted (Source:@ PTI)
The Indian women’s team will face Pakistan Women on Sunday, October 5, of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, and it would not be wrong to say that this is one of the most-awaited matches of the tournament.
Harmanpreet Kaur and co are training hard for this crucial encounter, but on Friday evening (October 30), their practice session was halted due to an unexpected and bizarre twist: a surprise pitch invader, a snake, entered the ground.
Snake disrupts India’s World Cup prep
As the players completed up their drills on the center wicket and began heading toward the nets, movement near the drain and lower seating areas caught everyone’s attention. A greyish-brown snake, later identified by stadium officials as a Garandia (a non-venomous local species) was seen near the practice zone.
Though initially shocked, the Indian players, handled the situation with calm. Instead of panic, players watched curiously as ground staff ensured the snake moved away safely without causing harm.
It is important to note that this is the not the first time that a similar incident has been seen at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. A similar situation was also seen during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) and even during the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh ODI in July this year.
India starts strong, Pakistan struggles in WWC
India heads into the encounter with momentum on their side. They kicked off their World Cup campaign with a dominant 59-run (DLS) victory against Sri Lanka at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Despite being in trouble at one point, a 103-run partnership between Deepti Sharma and Amanjot Kaur guided the team to 269 for 8 in 47 overs.
The Indian bowlers then bundled out Sri Lanka for 211 in 45.4 overs.
On the other hand, Pakistan had a rough start to their tournament, suffering a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in Colombo. heir batting line-up collapsed for just 129 in 38.3 overs.
