  • Sl Vs Sa 3Rd Odi Flurry Of Wrong Decision Making By Umpires Highlights First Innings

SL vs SA | 3rd ODI: Flurry of wrong decision-making by umpires highlights first innings

The umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Lyndon Hannibal had a hard day at the office at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo during the first innings of Sri Lanka vs South Africa third ODI. They made some messy decisions which were eventually overturned after the review was taken. In total, the umpires made five wrong decisions including not being able to pick a no-ball for extra men outside the circle.

The first of the wrong decisions was the very first wicket when Avishka Fernando, hit on the pads at the middle and leg was give not out while the hawkeye after the review was taken confirmed that the ball would have comfortably hit middle and leg. This was on the bowling of South African skipper Keshav Maharaj. Some overs later, George Linde hit Dinesh Chandimal on the pads after the latter missed a straighter ball trying to sweep it.

This was also given not out by the umpire before skipper Maharaj was convinced by Linde and wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen to take the review. The review showed that the ball pitched in line contrary to what the umpire thought that it was pitching outside leg and then it went on to hit the middle stump.

Later on, Chamika Karunaratne was adjudged out leg before wicket off a Tabraiz Shamsi delivery that he had hit for sure and on review, it showed exactly that. In the 4oth over once again the umpire gave out to Dushmantha Chameera on the bowling off Shamsi while the ball was clearly doing too much and missing leg stumps, which was confirmed after Chameera took the review.

Lastly, Charith Asalanka was declared out after he was caught down the square leg off the bowling of Linde, however, on Asalanka’s complaint, the no-ball for one extra fielder outside the 30 yeard circle was checked and it was confirmed, giving Sri Lanka and Asalanka a shy of relief. However, it was one more evidence of umpires’ mistake in this game.

BAN vs NZ | 4th T20I: Having tasted blood, New Zealand look to stretch series to the final

The New Zealand team was able to put one behind Bangladesh which is a rare phenomenon considering how badly they lost the first two games and how badly their neighbours Australia were routed early on. However, now that the Tom Latham led side have won a match to keep the series alive, it is obvious that they know the recipe of a win now, which is to put Bangladesh under pressure by putting runs on the board. The Bangladeshi team would look to now make amendments from their horror show with the bat in the last match where they folded for only 76, their second-lowest T20I total ever. Not a single batter was able to settle down and plan the chase of only 129 runs. All the tsar batters including the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Das and skipper Mahmudullah literally gave their wickets away. This match is also important for the fact that Finn Allen would be back for New Zealand and with him at the top, the Blackcaps would be feeling confident to go a bit more further with their scoring. Bangladesh though are playing with the best team possible and hence the best they can do is to bring in Soumya Sarkara in place of Mohammad Naim who has failed in the first three games and Shoriful Islam in place of Mohammad Saifuddin to give Mustafizur Rahman an able fast bowling partner. It is going to be low and slow and it would be hard to score, that’s for sure. If the skipper wins the toss, he would definitely look to bat first and put as many runs as possible. ENG vs IND | 5th Test: England recall Jack Leach and Jos Buttler for Manchester Test

Whether it is an outcome of the last Test defeat or whether focussed on things to come, but Jos Buttler, who went on a family break after the third Test has been recalled for the last Test in Manchester. Along with him, Somerset spinner Jack Leach has been called in as well giving an indication of things to expect in Old Trafford, which turned even during the T20 Blast games. Although Craig Overton suffered a blow to the elbow while batting in the fourth Test, he has still been included in the 16-man squad announced on Tuesday. Sam Billings, who was called in as cover for Buttler has returned back to his county of Kent. Mark Wood would be avoidable for selection in the fifth Test and England head coach Chris Silverwood feels that it can work as an advantage for the team. “He could come back and if he does, he will obviously add that pace for us. If the pitch is abrasive as it usually is at Old Trafford there should be reverse swing,” Silverwood said about Wood. About whether James Anderson will play the game at his home turf or not, Silverwood said that it would be decided after a chat with the man himself on where does he feel about his body. “James knows his own body. He will certainly give me an honest opinion of where he is at, and it's certainly something I will listen to,” he said. England squad: Joe Root (capt), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Haseeb Hameed, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Dawid Malan, Craig Overton, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood

Not at all worried about World Cup or IPL, focussed on winning series: Jasprit Bumrah

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who led the team to a huge 157 run win over England with his brilliant spell of reverse swing said that he is not at all worried about the Indian Premier League or the upcoming T20 World Cup as he plans to deliver once more in the last Test of the series and try and win it for India. "I want to play the longest time for my country so I work hard in the gym, on my diet and everything I try to control. I train really well and I have got ammunition inside me and when I want to push, I can push hard,” the fast bowler was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. "I am not thinking too far ahead about the IPL or World Cup because then mentally you can be tired. My focus is on the present, concentrating ball by ball and get results in our favour,” added the 27-year-old who bowled 22 overs in the second innings and finished with figures of 2-27. Talking about the game, which India went on to win surprising many pundits who believed getting 10 wickets on the last ball was not really possible due to the flatness of the wicket, Bumrah said that the team never stopped believing that they can win. "Yes, the wicket was fresh and we didn't score much in the first innings. But we didn't lose shape as a team and didn't think about a lot of things that are said and a lot of things that are written. We wanted to fight till the end and that's the character we wanted to show,” said Bumrah.
